Every artist has something to contribute. Every contribution helps create something extraordinary.
The YDC is proud to partner with Access Independence for Together We Create, an inclusive and adaptive art workshop celebrating creativity, individuality, and the connections that bring our community together.
Designed for young people of all abilities, this workshop is especially welcoming to participants with disabilities and those who may benefit from adapted materials, flexible instruction, sensory considerations, or additional assistance. Whether your child is an experienced artist or exploring art for the first time, we want them to feel comfortable, supported, and free to create in their own way.
During this hands-on experience, participants will work together to create a large collaborative mural representing community, connection, and belonging. Using paints, brushes, sponges, stamps, textured materials, and collage elements, each artist can contribute in a way that reflects their interests, strengths, and individual abilities.
We recognize that creativity looks different for everyone. With that in mind, the workshop will offer a variety of approaches to help participants engage in ways that work best for them.
Depending on individual needs, adaptations may include:
Adaptive art materials: Larger-handled brushes, sponges, rollers, stamps, and alternative tools for participants who benefit from additional gripping or fine-motor support.
Flexible participation: Opportunities to paint, draw, stamp, create collages, select materials, or observe before joining an activity.
Accessible workspaces: Seated and standing participation options, with consideration for wheelchair access and individual positioning needs.
Communication and instructional support: Visual examples, demonstrations, step-by-step guidance, and consideration for individual communication preferences.
Sensory accommodations: Flexibility around materials and textures, additional time, movement breaks, and quieter participation options when needed.
Our goal is not for every artist to create in the same way, but for every artist to have a meaningful opportunity to participate.
We ask that a parent, caregiver, or designated support person plan to remain with their participant(s) for the duration of the workshop. Your presence helps us create a comfortable, supportive experience and allows you to provide assistance when needed.
As part of registration, families will be asked to complete a brief participant sign-up and support assessment. This helps our team better understand each artist's interests, communication preferences, accessibility needs, allergies or sensitivities, and any accommodations that may support their participation.
We encourage families to share anything that would help us make the experience welcoming and successful for their participant.
At the YDC, we believe belonging begins when everyone has the opportunity to participate, express themselves, and know that their contributions matter.
We can't wait to see what we create together!
